Abstract

The squares have changed significantly over time, taking into account the various aspects that involve them, as definition, functions, uses and conceptions. In Brazil, the Paspalum notatum are the most disseminated turfgrasses, constituting different sites and purposes. When the purpose is ornamental, weed infestation can lead to loss of turfgrass aesthetic quality and alters the microclimate, because it interferes in the water infiltration into soil, maintaining the balance of atmospheric moisture and absorption of light and heat by the soil. The present work aimed to distinguish the floristic composition of weed community in turfgrasses areas of eight squares of Jaboticabal, São Paulo State and performing a quantitative survey of the vegetation through phytossociologic index, during April and May, 2011. Samples were collected using square of 0.50 x 0.50 m were used to calculate parameter frequency, density, relative frequency, relative density, relative dominance, relative coverage and relative importance, for both the municipality and for the squares, independently. In the general context, at total of forty-seven weed species were identified, distributed into sixteen families, with Asteraceae presenting the largest number of species. Since the most important species were: Desmodium incanum > Brachiaria decumbens > Desmodium triflorum > Synedrellopsis grisebachii > Eleusine indica
