Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine body composition and nutritional requirements of calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na) and potassium (K) in Saanen goats of different genders (male castrated, female and male non-castrated) with body weight from 30 to 45 kg, in the final phase of growth, were two trials. In Trial 1 (requirements for maintenance), 62 animals were used. Eleven animals (3 males castrated, 2 males non-castrated and 6 females) were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment as a reference to estimate the initial body composition. The remainder (18 males castrated, 18 males non-castrated and 15 females), were divided into groups of three animals of the same gender, drawn (similar weights and scores) and divided into three groups: 0% (ad libitum), 25% and 50% of alimentary restriction. When the animal reached the treatment ad libitum weight of 45 kg, this was slaughtered animals with treatments 25% and 50% restricting the same group and of the same gender condition, so that three animals from each group were hit with the same amount of experimental days. In Trial 2 (requirements for gain), we used 11 animals (3 males castrated, 2 males non-castrated and 6 females) who were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment as a reference to estimate the initial body composition. Still others were slaughtered 18 animals (6 of each gender) to 37.5 kg slaughter used as intermediate and other 17 (6 males castrated, 6 males non-castrated and 5 females) were slaughtered at 45 kg body weight used as final reference, and all 47 animals fed ad libitum. The whole body of the animal was weighed, ground, homogenized and a subsample was withdrawn for carrying out chemical analyzes. We used the comparative slaughter method for the calculation of net requirements. The net requirement for daily maintenance did not differ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
