Abstract

With the growth of the world population, various problems arise that affect many countries, including Brazil, which produces food on a large scale to supply internal needs and other countries. Concerns for the environment and animal welfare have been widely discussed topics in recent years, with the public becoming increasingly aware. Care for animals in the production chain influences business, especially when it comes to exportation. This work aimed to study animal welfare indicators and sought to implement them in animal genetic improvement simulators. These indicators must be longitudinal, meaning that data changes over time according to the animal's situation and must be correlated. Algorithms were implemented to simulate such characteristics, and the Cholesky decomposition was applied, which allowed the correlation of a randomly generated symmetric and positive definite matrix, forcing the correlation to decrease over time as it gets more distant. Although this simulation allows for the use of only one characteristic, and the algorithm complexity is not linear, the results were very promising concerning the expected longitudinal effects for each individual.
