Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different levels of fishmeal protein replacement by mealworm meal protein in diets for angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare). Were used 200 juveniles divided into two initial average weight ranges (1,00 to 1,17g and 1,18 to 1,38g), where the fish were distributed in 20 aquariums with 90 liters, coupled to a system of constant aeration and temperature control. The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks (CRB), composed of five treatments and four replicates, each weight range being a block. Fish were fed four times a day, until apparent satiety, with experimental isoprotein (37% CP) and isoenergetic (4,300 Kcal CE.Kg-1) diets, containing levels of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% replacement of fish meal protein by insect meal for 80 days. The parameters of performance and nutritional efficiency, as, weight gain (WG), proportion of crude protein in weight gain (CPWG), proportion of ether extract in weight gain (EEWG), specific growth rate (SGR), apparent feed conversion (AFC), protein efficiency rate (PER) and survival (S), were confirmed, as well as the physiological indices. The data were submitted to variance analysis (ANOVA), at the significance level of 5% and polynomial regression was applied to WG, CPWG and EEWG. The Tukey Test (P<0.05) was applied to the other performance parameters, using the RStudio program (Build 351, © 2009-2021, PBC). The use of levels higher than 29.50% of replacement in the diet can result in loss of fish performance. For the TCE and CAA parameters, the 25% replacement level proved to be effective in the performance of the fish.
