Abstract

The sociology’s history in the Brazilian high school is associated with particularities that explain the difficulty in keeping it included in the school curriculum, as well as in elaborating teaching practices aimed at learning sociology. Thus, this work is divided into three parts. In the first part, the trajectory of sociology teaching in schools is presented, allocating the debate in the current time, with the Nova BNCC, which ceased sociology, once again, to be part of the curriculum as a compulsory discipline. When defending that sociology as a discipline be capable of giving meaning to school, the proposed approach towards the discipline, based on literary reading, is presented, pointing the possibility of working with students in interconnected way with the teaching of literature. The second part assesses the relationship between sociology and literature, proposing approaches that can confirm the epistemological dimension of literature in the production of knowledge about society, as well as the development of Brazilian social thought in close relationship with essay and literature. Finally, in the last part, a didactic sequence is developed with O Cortiço, by Aluísio Azevedo, exemplifying the approach between literature and themes of sociological relevance, such as sociability, culture, identity and inequality. The analysis of the parts is not separate from the whole, and taking as a reference the São Paulo curriculum, the approach suggests the permanent exercise of integration and revision of knowledge.
