Variabilidade genética de teste de procedências e progênies de Parkia platycephala Benth

Abstract

Popularly known as faveira, Parkia platycephala Benth is a species native to Brazil with significant nutritional and ecological potential; however, studies on the genetic structure of populations are still lacking. Thus, the objective of this study was to estimate the genetic variability, genetic parameters, and genetic distance in a P. platycephala provenance and progeny test. The test was established using a randomized block design, with 45 progeny from three provenances. The evaluated quantitative traits include tree height (HEI), diameter at ground level (DGL), and diameter below the first bifurcation (DFB). The data were submitted to REML/BLUP analysis, from which estimates of genetic parameters, genetic correlation, BLUPs, genetic gains, and effective population size were obtained. Additionally, genetic divergence between progeny via BLUP was estimated based on the Mahalanobis distance. Progeny were then grouped using UPGMA, Tocher’s optimization method, and principal component analysis. Estimates of individual narrow-sense heritability (h²r) and within progeny heritability (h²d) ranged from low to moderate (0.00 a 0.39), with the highest values observed for DGL (0.32 for h²r and 0.39 for h²d). The coefficient of individual (CVgi(%)) and between progeny genetic variation (CVgp(%)) indicate the existence of genetic variability between and within provenances. The F_ST values demonstrate low to moderate genetic differentiation among the three populations, and genetic correlations between traits were all positive and significant. The greatest genetic distance was observed between progeny SG18 and SG21 (7.29) and the shortest between EG5 and BJ42 (0.10). The cophenetic correlation coefficients (CCC>0.80) indicate good representativeness between the dissimilarity matrix and the grouping methods. The results show that there is genetic variability between the studied provenances and progeny; therefore, further analysis can assess the use of the test in conservation and breeding programs for the species.
