Conservação de sementes de taperebá (Spondias mombin L., Anacardiaceae)

Abstract

The taperebá (Spondias mombin L.) is a fruit tree species originated from the Tropical America and is common in the Amazonic region, where it occurs in the wilderness. The seed storage between harvest and sowing interferes with the quality and quantity of seedlings obtained. The available knowledge, particularly regarding the conservation of seeds of native species is not sufficient to support the definition of storage technologies. This fact demands more of knowledge about the factors that intervening the conservation of seeds of this species. Therefore, this work aimed to verify the effects of the storage period in different environments in maintaining physiological seed quality. Taperebá seeds were stored for 360 days at room temperature, in fridge and in freezer, and were periodically evaluated for moisture degree, emergence percentage and seedling vigor. The applied experimental design was the completely randomized design in a factorial scheme of 3x7 (environments x time of storage: 0, 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 e 360 days) with four replicates. The means were compared with the Tukey test (P < 0.05). Observed reduction in germination performance, length and mass of seedlings seeds of S. mombin the longer storage. Storage at room temperature because lower physiological quality of the seeds of S. mombin throughout the storage period.
