Abstract

El Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Sevilla cuenta entre sus fondos conuna magnífica y abundante colección escultórica romana en mármol,proveniente en su mayoría de Itálica, ciudad que a través de los siglos produjopiezas de gran calidad artística superando a todas las ciudades de Hispania,tanto por el número como por el valor de las esculturas de todo géneroencontradas hasta la fecha. Estas circunstancias nos motivaron a llevar a caboun estudio de utensilios y técnicas escultóricas romanas, dada la abundancia ycalidad del material a analizar y sobre todo porque hasta ahora no se habíahecho un seguimiento profundo de los métodos de labra en el ámbito de laarqueología romana de Hispania. Los diferentes autores consultados sólohacían al respecto, breves menciones del uso de algunas herramientas en susdescripciones estilísticas, sin aportar más datos del proceso creativo de la obra.
