This Final Degree Project develops a technical and economic analysis of the production of para-xylene from ethylene. Firstly, an introduction of the existing viable technologies to obtain para-xylene has been made, as well as a para-xylene and ethylene market analysis. Secondly, a technical analysis is developed containing both the traditional technology and the new technology under study, representing a flow diagram of both technologies. It is also done a mass and energy balance of the technology based on ethylene for each of the three production scenarios considered (Base production 182.000 t/year, optimistic production 273.000 t/year and pessimistic production 91.000 t/year). Afterwards, the economic analysis is described verifying its economic viability. Lastly, the conclusions obtained after comparing the traditional and the innovative technologies are presented.
