Abstract

This End-of-degree Project investigates Early Childhood Education teachers’ and students’ knowledge and conceptions about Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as the possible lack of training they can have. To carry out this research, it has been used a questionnaire, which has been replied by 113 participants, teachers and students. The results of the research clearly show that the training received by the teachers and the students is neither sufficient nor appropriate to respond to the needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The conclusions of the study also show that the participants present a number of misconceptions derived from their lack of training and the existence of socially established stereotypes. Moreover, 65 per cent of participants do not consider themselves as sufficiently prepared to attend to the possible difficulties and needs that children with Autism Spectrum Disorders can present in the classroom.
