Abstract

The literary genre called “relaciones de sucesos” is the main source that Historians of Music have to research the role of music in public feasts and the concept and awareness of music and musicians in Baroque Age. Those texts from XVIth, XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries are considered a valuable bibliographic heritage, insufficiently known and utilised, that reveals the passion of Baroque society for ritual, ceremony and sensorial language. Specifically, this literary genre is a very appropriate set to study the sound display of Early Modern Age cities in the moments of the greatest peak of their civic consciousness. In Baroque feasts, music played a role in the connection between every artistic contribution, showing the nature of Baroque sensitivity as well as any other.
