Abstract

The School of Salamanca was a prominent current of thought in various areas of knowledge, which developed during the 16th century and part of the 17th century, through a group of theologians and jurists, most of them belonging to the University of Salamanca. Various events that occurred at the end of the 15th century and during the 16th century, influenced the economic thought of these authors in a crucial way. It contrasts with the predominant thought of the time of mercantilists and arbitrists. This work is based on the original vision of Joseph A. Schumpeter, who recognized in the members of the School of Salamanca a central role in the development of modern economic thought and placed Spanish thought at the top of science. In his History of Economic Analysis, and under the influence of Dempsey, he cites only those who for him were the most relevant authors.
