Abstract

Conditionality depends on different grammatical structures for its expression in speech. The aim of this work is to analyse the behaviour of the conditional clauses in the educated Pan-Hispanic field, taking into account both those introduced by si and those that present other connectors. Given the scope of the chosen subject, we will only deal with the following aspects: the frequency of the use of the conditional nexus and the communicative contents they provide, the order of the protasis and apodosis, and the markers situated between these two segments. In order to carry out this investigation we will use the Macrocorpus de la norma lingüística culta de las principales ciudades del mundo hispánico(Macro corpus of the educated linguistic standard of the principle cities of the Hispanic world), a representative sample of the spoken language used by this sociolectus.
