Abstract

This essay aims at introducing a sample of work exams concerning two key craft production sectors in the city of Seville at the beginning of the Early Modern period, being those the textile and leather ones. With this purpose, it is expected to enhance the value of this type of documentation, preserved among the notarial papers of the city, in terms of historical record of the local craftwork social and work field. In addition, the results will be compared with the regulations contained in the guild ordinances, which had been promulgating since the 15th century for the adequate performance of the multiple urban professions.
