En este artículo ofrecemos una visión diacrónica de las exploraciones y estudios científicos que durante la Antigüedad posibilitaron un concepto de la Ecumene que se encuentra en la génesis del descubrimiento de América. Reclamamos para la ciencia helenística el corpus teórico que, transmitido a lo largo de los siglos, hizo posible la empresa colombina.
