La narrativa femenina chilena (1923-1980): Discurso subjetivo y novela lírica

Abstract

This study considers the lyrical novel and the poetic tale as an important type that characterizes the feminine narrative from Chile. This pattern acquires a special meaning in the literary creations of Marta Brunet, Ma Flora Yanez, Ma Luisa Bombal y Ma Carolina Geel, because, through the lyricism and symbolic texture of their prose, the women writers establish -although implicitely- a denunciation of woman's alienated situation in the middleclass patriarchal society. For this reason the analysis of the narrative strategies (autonomous monologue, subjective time, passive characters, descriptive pauses...) and stylistic resources (quality adjectives, metaphors, symbols, displacements of adjectives, sensorial images, internal rhythm...) has been established in a strong interaction with the thematic composition of their works.
