İstanbul’da kentsel dönüşümün oy verme davranışına etkisi

Abstract

Social, economic, and psychological elements all have a role in shaping voting behavior as a concrete and quantifiable political activity within the context of political socialization. Voting behavior is shaped by a variety of factors, especially in metropolitan areas. Thus, it is reasonable to say that one of the elements that can influence political conduct generally and voting behavior specifically is the problem of urban renewal, which has been on the agenda repeatedly since the 1980s globally and the 2000s in Turkey specifically. This study aims to investigate the relationship between voting behavior and urban renewal. As one of the biggest urban renewal initiatives in Turkey, the impact of the Fikirtepe Urban Renewal Project on voting behavior is examined. To analyze the changes in voting patterns, all election results since 2014, when the spatial changes began, are covered. Then, in-depth interviews with 40 citizens who are impacted by urban renewal in the neighborhoods of Fikirtepe, Dumlupınar, Eğitim, and Dumlupınar were conducted. In conclusion, voting behavior and urban transformation have been proven to be strongly correlated
