Abstract

Sadettin Kaynak was a musician and hāfeez who witnessed the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the early periods of the Republic. Born in 1895 in the Sarıgüzel neighborhood of Fatih, Kaynak trained in music with prominent figures of his time such as Hāfeez Melek, Kasımpaşalı Sheikh Cemâleddin Efendi, Muallim Kâzım (Uz), and Neyzen Emin Dede. Sadettin Kaynak is part of the lineage of meşq (musical training tradition) that could be traced back to Hammâmîzâde İsmail Dede Efendi. However, Hāfeez Sadettin, who developed his own style and modus that was rooted in the tradition, trained important musicians and hāfeez of the period such as Alâeddin Yavaşça, Kani Karaca, Tahir Karagöz, and Ahmet Kibritçioğlu. Since he reflected the socio-cultural changes of society in his own musical pieces, his life and works could be seen as important research subjects in the field of Turkish Religious Music. Moreover, the fact that Sadettin Kaynak was one of the leading figures in the turkification process of 1932 of the language of worship, is also an indicator that he was a central figure at the time. Kaynak, who brings a new perspective to music by composing works in different styles, is first and foremost a hāfeez himself. He elucidated such a profile given his duties within the Presidency of Religious Affairs. However, he was also interested in Western music and extensively used folk music, in his own words, to correspond to the needs of the day. Additionally, he left behind many compositions and performances in the field of religious music. In this thesis, we examined Hāfeez Composer Sadettin Kaynak's works in order to shed light on his aspects of religious music in his compositions. According to his son Günaydın Kaynak, the number of Hâfız Sadettin's religious music compositions reached up to three hundred; however, during our research, we could only identify twenty-six of them. Furthermore, we notated the recordings he sang for record companies such as Columbia, Sahibinin Sesi, and Odeon, and analyzed them in the relevant sections. Thus, we tried to present Sadettin Kaynak's religious music as a whole.

Sadettin Kaynak, Osmanlı’nın son dönemine ve Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarına şahitlik etmiş mûsikîşinas bir hâfızdır. 1895 senesinde Fatih’in Sarıgüzel semtinde dünyaya gelen Kaynak; Hâfız Melek, Kasımpaşalı Şeyh Cemâleddin Efendi, Muallim Kâzım (Uz) ve Neyzen Emin Dede gibi dönemin önde gelen isimlerinden mûsikî meşk etmiştir. Sadettin Kaynak, Hammâmîzâde İsmail Dede Efendi’ye kadar götürebileceğimiz meşk zincirinin önemli bir halkasıdır. Bununla birlikte gelenekten beslenen Hâfız Sadettin; zamanla kendine has üslûbunu ve tavrını ortaya koyarak Alâeddin Yavaşca, Kani Karaca, Tahir Karagöz, Ahmet Kibritçioğlu gibi dönemin önemli müzisyen ve hâfızlarını yetiştirmiştir. Yaşadığı dönem itibarıyla toplumda cereyan eden ibadet musikisi konusundaki sosyo-kültürel değişimi mûsikî çalışmalarına yansıtmış olması sebebiyle hayatı ve çalışmaları Türk Din Musikisi sahası için önemli bir araştırma konusu haline gelmiştir. Sadettin Kaynak’ın 1932’de hayata geçirilen ibadet dilinin Türkçeleştirilmesi uygulamalarında önde gelen isimlerden olması onun önemini daha da artırmaktadır. Farklı birçok tarzda eserler vererek mûsikîye yeni bir bakış katan Kaynak her şeyden önce bir hâfızdır. Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı bünyesinde almış olduğu görevlerle de bu profili tamamlayan biridir. Bununla beraber kendi ifadesiyle “günün ihtiyaçlarına cevap vermek” gayesiyle yapmış olduğu müziğinde Halk müziğinden çokça istifade etmesinin yanında Batı müziğine de ilgi duymuştur. Bunun yanı sıra dînî mûsikî sahasına da birçok beste ve icrâ bırakmıştır. Biz de tezimizde Hâfız Bestekâr Sadettin Kaynak’ın dînî mûsikî yönünü ön plana çıkarmak amacıyla bu sahadaki eserlerini inceledik. Oğlu Günaydın Kaynak’ın belirttiğine göre Hâfız Sadettin’in dînî mûsikî beste sayısı üç yüz olmakla beraber çalışmalarımız esnasında bunlardan yirmi altı tanesini tespit edebildik. Bunun yanı sıra Columbia, Sahibinin Sesi ve Odeon gibi plak şirketleri için okuduğu kayıtları notaya alarak analizlerini ilgili bölümlerde yaptık. Böylece Sadettin Kaynak’ın dînî mûsikîsini bir bütün olarak sunmaya çalıştık.
