Memluk dönemi Baybars Kur'ân-ı Kerîm'indeki geometrik desen tasarımı

Abstract

The concept of geometry design developed in different geographies and cultures reflects the artistic taste of the period. It is certain that the art of illumination, which has changed and developed in the course of its history, is not randomly designed and not only of visual quality. As in other works of art, there is a thought or philosophy in the background of qualified illumination applications. Thousands of magnificent tiles, kundekari, binding, illumination, etc. from all over Turkey and the Islamic world in general. Islamic geometric ornaments, which we encounter with examples of arts such as, unfortunately, are not adequately researched in Turkey. Not much is known about how these compositions were made and the artists who made them. The aim of this thesis is to understand the unique aesthetic value of the Mamluk period compositions, which is one of the peaks of Islamic geometric designs, and to explore their design processes. Undoubtedly, the first work that comes to mind when talking about the Mamluk period is the 7-volume work prepared for Rukn al-Din Baybars, the most important Qur'an of the period, and included in the inventory records as Baybars Qur'an. On this Qur'an, it is seen that Ebu Bekir Sandal and a group of artists with different styles reflect their own design taste, but when viewed holistically, we can talk about the unity of unique Mamluk geometric patterns. In our thesis, which we examined under the title of GEOMETRIC PATTERN DESIGN IN THE BAYBARS KUR'AN-I KERİM OF THE MEMLUQ PERIOD, the subject was introduced with a brief historical briefing, and then the Mamluk geometry was analyzed in detail. In the content of the thesis, besides the geometry, which is classified and evaluated within a composition plan, the illuminated decoration areas of the work are also included, and the study, which also focuses on its connection with other contemporary manuscripts and branches of art, is handled and evaluated from the perspective of an artist.
