Abstract

As credit has been the basic function of banking operations, credit risk was thefirst risk that had been defined. Managing credit risk in a functional way depends onhow the banks adopt the understanding of credit management.Banks should choose the model/method suitable for their organization in orderto realize a successful credit risk management process. Credit risk managementmodels/methods should be tested by scientific methods for evaluating the success ofthose models.Banks develop internal credit evaluation systems explaining relations amongvariables that influence crediting/non-crediting decisions, in order to determine to creditor not to credit the customers. This study suggests a credit evaluation model usingAnalytical Hierarchy Process Method in evaluating the short term credit demands of thefirms which are accepted as corporate firms according to Basel II, for the decision ofcrediting or non-crediting.
