Abstract

SUMMARY In this study titled `The Concept of Void in Contemporary Art, The Relationship of Minimalism - Mysticism`, the concept and meanning of void are firstly examined from a scientific viewpoint. The universe that is the biggest void perceivable, the mystic approaches in the systematic of beliefs and the influence of those approaches in the minimalist trends are considered with samples from an artistic viewpoint. Following the explanations about minimalism and mysticism, the understanding of art from its beginnings until today is investigated within a minimaiistic and mystic contex and from a historical viewpoint. The development in time of the mankind who started to create tools before the last Ice Age, the mystic approaches arising out of the formation of the idea of God and their influence on ait arc studied. As the thesis develops, the concept of void in the systematic of beliefs, its use in art along with the explanations of minimalist trends and mysticisms and the influence of the simplification and purification of the systematic of beliefs or art are examined with samples, and it is claimed that religions bring along abstraction and simplification. In the last chapter, the concept of void in modem art is studied from the viewpoint of minimalist trends and mysticism by means of two sub-headings. Lastly, samples are provided to express the appearance and use of paintings originally banned by religion in the turkish art as religious paintings.

ÖZET `Çağdaş Sanatta Boşluk Kavramı, Minimalizm-lVlistisizm İlişkileri` adlı bu çalışmada, ilk olarak boşluk kavramı ve boşluğun anlamı bilimsel olarak incelendi. Algılanabilir en büyük boşluk olarak evrene, inançlar sistematiğindeki mistik yaklaşımlar ve bu yaklaşımların minimalist eğilimler içindeki etkilerine sanatsal açıdan örneklerle bakıldı. Minimalizm ve Mistisizmin açıklamalarının ardından, yine sadeleşme ve tinsel bağlamda, başlangıçtan bugüne sanat anlayışı tarihsel bir bakış içinde irdelendi. Son Buzul Çağından önce alet yapmaya başlayan insanın zaman içindeki gelişimi, Tanrı fikrinin ortaya çıkmasıyla oluşmaya başlayan mistik yaklaşımlar ve bunların sanata etkileri etüt edildi. Tezin gelişiminde, İnançlar sistematiğinde boşluk kavramı, minimalist eğilimler ve mistisizmin açıklamalarıyla sanatta kullanımına, inançlar sistematiklerinde gerçekleşen sadeleşme ve arınmanın sanata etkilerine örneklerle bakılırken, dinlerin soyutlama ve sadeleşmeyi getirdiği öne sürüldü. Son bölümde, çağdaş sanatta boşluk kavramı, minimalist eğilimler ve mistisizm açısından incelenmiştir. Yine bu bölümde, iki alt başlıkla, önce çağdaş Türk sanatına sadeleşme ve mistisizm bağlamında bakılıp, son olarak dini açıdan yasak olan resmin, Türklerde dini resimler olarak nasıl ortaya çıktığına ve nasıl kullanıldığına örneklerle bakılmıştır.
