Abstract

In education system there are so many problems that are waiting for solutions although there are some solutions the main concern is where to start. School size and its influence on school management is one of the most important problems. Even though the problem was known and mentioned a systematic study was not held until now. This study was done to show the affects of school size on management and interests of primary and secondary school principals and deputy principles about the size of schools. The scale that was used in this study was developed by researcher. Principals and experts were in scale development process. The scale was made of 47 subscale questions. This study was done to scrutinize school size perceptions of principals and deputy principals who worked in primary and secondary schools in Istanbul. Variables of the study were school size, principle's experience and education level. Furthermore the relationship between the size of schools and these variables was scrutinized. Questionnaires which were replied by 361 principles and deputy principles were satisfactory. Results were gotten from material analysis and internal coherence. Results were taken by implementing scale on SPSS package program which uses one way variant analysis (ANOVA) and t test techniques. The findings showed a meaningful difference between school size and variables of experience in post at the end of this research. A meaningful relationship was found between the size of the schools and experience in post.
