Summary Halil has to migrate from East to İstanbul, and firstly he comes to the home of his relatives. 26 years old Halil, had obtained a national consciousness at the hometown, and he wants to keep on the identity struggle in Istanbul. Laleli is an untidy neighbourhood among the non-living models, workbenches and pimps. Halil finds a job in his relative's grocer and meets with Lara who is a customer. Lara is a young beautiful woman comming from Russia and living on by selling her body. Spasiba, which means `thanks` in Russian, has passed to Kurdish as `spas` in the same meaning. While buying a package of cigarette, Lara says to Halil `spas`. Halil starts to speak in him language. However, both of them are not speaking in their native language. Turkish is their common language as well as being a foreign language, and both of them are the `other one` here. One day Lara comes to the grocer and asks Halil to show her around. They go to the coast. They hold each other's hands. They go to a hotel. In the evening, Nazım tells Halil that partisans came and said, `you have to work`, and he explains the bad affect of the conversation. His expression is very rude. Lara comes to Haul's house. They have breakfast. Lara sleeps in order to leave last exhausting night. Anyway they have nothing to talk. Their relationship is based on their hanging on. The main problem for Halil is that Lara is selling her body. While Lara is sleeping, Halil goes to Nazim's store. Partisans come to the store and invite Nazım and Halil to the meeting which will be made for the 1st September IIIWorld Peace Day. Going to the home, Halil understands that Lara is going to work on the meeting day. Although he promised to partisans, he doesn't go to the meeting the following day. While he was lazing around the Laleli' s streets, he sees Lara entering in a hotel with another man. Not having gone to the meeting and coming across with this part of the identity of Lara: these are too heavy for him. Halil' s emotional connection with identity struggle was going on in Istanbul. However, as a result of his relationship with Lara, his connection with Kurdish struggle turns into a relation that lost its bunch. He is disturbed by his conscious and the struggle loses its past importance. Due to this situation, he realises that he had lost the relation point that he thought he was expressing himself in. His relationship with Lara has no hope about future. This is another relation point and he lost it. That day Halil returns home. He learns from the news on TV about the meeting that a partisan had been killed. He takes his ID and cuts it. He leaves a note to Lara on which written `Spas Lara`. He dumps the pieces of his ID and quit Istanbul. Lara takes Halil' s message and puts on the wig she used when she is working, and she enters to a street and disappears. IV

Özet Doğu' dan İstanbul'a göç etmek zorunda kalan Halil, önce akrabalarının yanma Laleli' ye gelir. Yirmi altı yaşında olan Halil, memleketinde kimlik bilinci kazanmıştır ve İstanbul'da da kimlik mücadelesini sürdürmek istemektedir. Cansız mankenler, tezgahlar, kadın pazarlayanlar arasında keşmekeş bir semt Laleli. Akrabasının evinde kalan ve bakkalında çalışmaya başlayan Halil, bakkala gelen Lara ile tanışır. Lara Rusya'dan gelmiş ve bedenini satarak geçinen güzel bir kadındır. Rusça'da `teşekkür etmek` anlamına gelen `spasiba` sözcüğü, Kürtçe'ye `spas` şeklinde geçmiştir. Bakkalda sigara alan Lara, Halil'e `spasiba` der. Halil kendi diliyle konuşmaya başlar. Oysa ki ikisi de anadillerini konuşmamaktadır. Ortak dilleri Türkçe'dir ve ikisi de burada ötekidir. Bir gün Lara bakkala gelir ve Halil'in kendisini gezdirmesini ister. Sahile giderler. El ele tutuşurlar. Bir otele giderler. Akşamında Nazım, Halil'e Hadeplilerin geldiğini ve çalışmalarını istediklerini ve bunun Nazım 'daki kötü etkisini anlatır. İfadesi oldukça kabadır. Lara Halil'in evine gelir. Kahvaltı yaparlar. Lara gecenin yorgunluğunu atmak için uyur. Zaten konuşacakları bir şey de yoktur. Birbirleri ile olan ilişkileri tutunma ilişkisidir. Halil için temel problem Lara'nın bedenini satmasıdır. Lara uyurken Halil, Nazım 'm mağazasına gider. Mağazaya gelen Hadepliler, `1 Eylül Dünya Barış Günü` dolayısıyla Nazım ve Halil'i ertesi gün yapılacak mitinge davet ederler. Eve giden Halil, Lara'nın miting olacağı gün çalışacağını anlar. Partililere söz vermesinerağmen ertesi gün mitinge gitmez. Laleli sokaklarında başıboş gezerken Lara' yi bir adamla otele girerken görür. Hem eyleme gidememek, hem de Lara'nın bu kimliğiyle bizatihi karşılaşmak, ona ağır gelir. Halil'in Kürt mücadelesi ile olan duygusal bağı İstanbul'da devam etmekle beraber, Lara ile olan ilişkisi sonucu bağlamından kayan bir bağa dönüşür. Vicdanen bir rahatsızlık duyar ve eski önemini kaybeder. Bundan dolayı kendini ifade ettiğini düşündüğü bu aidiyet noktasını kaybettiğine karar verir. Lara ile ilişkisi de, geleceğe dair umut vaat etmez. Bu da aidiyet noktalarından bir tanesidir ve kaybetmiştir. Halil o gün eve döner. Televizyonda çıkan mitinge dair haberlerden; bir eylemcinin öldürüldüğünü öğrenir. Nüfus cüzdanını çıkarır ve keser. Lara'ya `spas Lara` yazılı bir not bırakır. Nüfus cüzdanının parçalarını çöpe atar ve İstanbul'dan ayrılır. Lara ise Halil'in notunu alır ve işe çıkarken kullandığı peruğu kafasına takar ve bir sokağa dalıp kaybolur.
