İsnad çeşitleri ve evhe'l-esânîd

Abstract

As one of the most crucial matters of hadith studies, isnad has been examined from various aspects since its emergence. This study approaches isnad types in terms of authenticity and urges upon awhâ al-asânîd that is the weakest of isnads evaluated in different levels as a result of the variability of the authenticity requirements they meet. Hadith scholars who are aware of the fact that the evaluation of isnads as the most authentic (asahh al-asānīd) and the weakest is not absolute, have presented their opinions on the matter. This study examines twelve isnads mentioned by al-Ḥākim al-Naysābūrī as awhā al-asānīd for the first time compared among the ones reaching certain companions and isnads of certain city/ regions, and seven isnads that Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalānī considers more worthy of this naming. Thus the study aims to present how hadith scholars evaluated the authenticity of isnads as a whole through exploring the isnads considered as awhā al-asānīd.
