Objective: The research was performed to determine nurses' own perceptions regarding their problem-solving skills and their listening skill levels.Material and Method: This descriptive study was carried out with 395 nurses working in a university hospital in Bursa. Data were collected with the Information Form, Listening Skill Scale and Problem-Solving Inventory. Descriptive statistics, Student's t test, One-way ANOVA test and Pearson Correlation Analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: Nurses had a mean age of 33.38±5.29 years, 85.6% were females, 53.2% had bachelor's degree and 30.6% had 6-10 years of occupational experience. Their mean overall score from the Listening Skill Scale was 57.21±5.25 and their mean overall score from the Problem-Solving Inventory (PSI) was 80.86±12.81. Nurses' listening skills differed by the position they worked, the unit they worked and whether they listened to music as a hobby, and their perception of their problem-solving skills varied according to the unit they worked, whether they received problem-solving training and whether they received support in problem solving (p<0.05; p<0.01). There was a statistically significant negative and moderate relationship between nurses' total score from the Problem-Solving Inventory and their scores from the Listening Skill Scale (r = -0.422; p=0.001).Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that nurses' listening skills were above average and they perceived themselves as adequate in problem-solving skills. Nurses' perception of their problem-solving skills increased as their listening skills increased.Key Words: Nurse, Listening, Listening Skill, Problem-Solving Skill.
