Vladimir Putin dönemi Rusya'nın Suriye politikası

Abstract

This study explores Syria politics of Russia in the terms of Vladimir Putin from the perspective of geopolitic. The aspirations of Russia about the region dates back to centuries ago. While Russia sustained its aspirations through religious and cultural politics for long times, with Tsar I.Petro coming to power, pioneer of modernization of Russia, Russia have set the extending to the South, notably reaching Mediterrenian Sea, as a main target for its security and interests. The successors of I.Petro pursued also a similar policy regarding the issue and, after the collapse of Soviet Union, Vladimir Putin tried to display activity in the Middle East and Mediterrenian as well. Syria has been the main ally of Russia in this regard. Just as Syria was the country that broke the thought of surroundedness of Russia in Soviet Union era, so is it in the term of Vladimir Putin.
