The relationship between personal values, calling and work engagement

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı kişisel değerler, çağrı ve işe tutkunluk ilişkisini incelemek ve aynı zamanda, çağrı ve işe tutkunluk arasındaki farkı kişisel değerler bakış açısı ile açıklamaktır. Araştırmada kullanılan örneklem çalışan kişilerden seçilmiştir. Araştırma farklı mesleklerden toplam 208 katılımcı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma anketi, katılımcılara hem elektronik posta hem de elden verilerek ulaştırılmıştır. İşte sergilenen davranışlar ve iş algısı açısından, çağrı ve işe tutkunluk arasında dikkate değer kesişim noktaları bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın araştırma sonuçları da, uyarılım ve yardımseverlik değerlerini öncelikli olarak yaşatan kişilerin, çağrılarının peşinden giderek onu gerçekleştirebilme olasılıklarının daha fazla olduğunu ve bu kişilerin yüksek iş tutkunluğu olan bireyler de olabileceklerini ortaya çıkararak bu kesişim noktalarını teyit etmiştir. Sonuçlar ayrıca, çağrılarının peşinden giderek onu gerçekleştiren bireylerin güvenlik değerini kişisel değer olarak daha az ön planda tuttuklarını göstermiş, fakat güvenlik değeri ve işe tutkunluk arasında benzer bir ilişki olmadığının altını çizmiştir. Bu çalışma örgütsel davranış literatürüne kişilerin kişisel değerlerinin iş algıları üzerinde nasıl bir etki yaratabileceği üzerine derinlemesine görüş sunarak katkıda bulunan ve aynı zamanda, işe ilişkin iki kavram olan çağrı ve işe tutkunluk arasındaki farkı, kişisel değerler bakış açısı ile açıklayan ilk çalışmadır. Sonuçlar incelenerek detaylı olarak tartışılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına bağlı olarak, kariyer planlama süreci için öneriler paylaşılmış, çalışmanın kısıtlılıkları belirtilerek, gelecek çalışmalar için öneriler sunulmuştur.Keywords: Work, calling, work engagement, values, meaningfulness, work relatedconstruct

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between personal values, calling, work engagement and, also to explain the distinction between calling and work engagement from values perspective. The research sample was chosen from working individuals and consisted of 208 participants in total from various occupations. The questionnaires were delivered both via e-mail and in person. There are significant overlaps between calling and work engagement in terms of work behavior and perception, and the research results confirmed this commonality by claiming that the individuals who endorse stimulation and benevolence values are more likely to pursue their calling and they are also more likely to have high work engagement. The results also revealed that the individuals who pursue their calling have the potential to honor the security value much less as their personal value, on the other hand no relation was found between security value and work engagement. This study contributes to organizational behavior literature by providing perspective on how personal values may have an impact on the individual's work perceptions and it is the first study to investigate the distinction of two work related constructs; calling and work engagement, from personal values perspective. The results of the research were explored and discussed in detail. Finally, based on the results, limitations of the study and suggestions for future studies were presented.Keywords: Work, calling, work engagement, values, meaningfulness, work related construct
