Abstract

Aim: To assess the perceptions of sector executives regarding the development potential of adventure tourism as a commercial recreation activity in Turkey. Methods: The study group includes eight sector executives from ATTA Nature, Adventure, and Sustainable Tourism Committee. This is a case study as qualitative research methods. Personal interviews was employed in this study for data collection process. The data obtained were evaluated through content analysis. Results: The sector executives participating in the study knew the relationship between tourism and recreation. Turkey has abundant natural wealth for adventure tourism. Agencies are financially and organizationally weak, and national competition strategies are not sufficient for nature tourism. Customer profile; mostly involves urbanites with medium or high level of income. They are educated and mostly female. Their ages range from 30 to 45. The sector market includes metropolitan cities. The country's strengths are; natural wealth, transportation, accommodation, product variety, cultural diversity and urbanization. Its weaknesses are in conservation of environment and culture, planning of camping sites, professionalism, emergency action plans, stability, product costs, organization, preventing illegal activities, guidance, legal regulations, recreation culture and sales. Conclusion: According to the sector executives, Turkey has a significant potential in adventure tourism and commercial recreation area. The country and the sector can benefit from the strengths better by solving actual problems of sector and adapting new policies.

Amaç: Türkiye'de ticari rekreasyon faaliyeti olarak macera turizminin gelişim potansiyelinin sektör yöneticilerinin algıları yardımı ile değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma grubunu, TURSAB Doğa, Macera & Sürdürülebilir Turizm Komitesi'ndeki sekiz sektör yöneticisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırma tekniklerinden durum çalışması olarak tespit edilmiştir. Verilerin toplanma sürecinde mülakat/bireysel görüşme kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler ise içerik analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Sektör yöneticilerinin turizm ve rekreasyon arasındaki ilişkiyi bildikleri, ülkemiz doğal zenginliklerinin macera turizmi için yeterli olduğu, acentelerin ekonomik ve kurumsal olarak güçsüz oldukları, doğa turizmi üzerine ulusal rekabet stratejilerinin yeterli bulunmadığı, Müşteri profili; orta–üst gelir grubu, kentli, daha çok bayan, 30-45 yaş, eğitimli. Sektörün pazarı büyük kentler. Güçlü yönler; doğal zenginlikler, ulaşım, konaklama, ürün ve kültürel çeşitlilik, kentleşme. Zayıf yönler ise; çevreyi ve kültürü koruma, kamp alanı planlaması, profesyonellik, acil durum eylem planları, istikrar, ürün maliyeti, kurumsallaşma, kaçak faaliyetlerin engellenememesi, rehberlik, yasal düzenlemeler, rekreasyon kültürü ve pazarlama.Sonuç: Sektör yöneticilerinin, Türkiye'nin macera turizmi ve ticari rekreasyon alanında ciddi potansiyele sahip olduğunu, sektörün yaşadığı sorunların çözülmesi ve yeni politikalar ile bu potansiyelin değerlendirilerek ülkeye katkı sağlayacağını düşündükleri sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
