Yeni dalga sinemasının görünmeyen feminen yüzü: Agnès Varda sinemasında kadın temsili

Abstract

New Wave is a cinema movement emerged in France in 1950s. New Wave is of great importance in terms of producing a new cinema language against permanent cinema rules. It became a world-shaking cinema movement by causing that similar `new` movements and innovations come up. In general, names such as Jacques Doniol Valcroze, Pierre Kast, Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Eric Rohmer, Jacques Rivette, Jacques Demy, Claude Chabrol, Alain Resnais, Louis Malle, Chris Marker stand out as leading representative of the movement in the New Wave literature. The purpose of this thesis study to make Agnès Varda cinema visible within the context of New Wave literature by underlining that there is a woman director who represents female side of the movement except for male directors in the New Wave Cinema. Besides, woman image in Agnès Varda cinema will be researched with feminist discourse analysis in the study.Male figuration in conventional cinema consists of reflection of male domination potency and male accepted as principle dynamics of patriarchal society forms leading dynamics in the traditional cinema, too. Varda has been in search of new and alternative cinema by refusing the killing language of conventional cinema produced by Mulvey and by breaking built-in codes. Within this context in Varda's cinema how she has created a counter-discourse to gender norms on the basis of feminism.
