Medine`de Osmanlı dini imar faaliyetleri: Mescid-i Nebevi örneği (1818-1861)

Abstract

In this work, the reparation and the reconstruction of Mescid-i Nebevi (the Holy Mosque in Madinah) during the Ottoman Empire between the years of 1818-1861 in Madinah where Muhammed, the prophet of Islam, is below ground, is generally examined. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Ottoman Empire had to struggle with some internal and external troubles. One of these troubles was the Wahabites movement which started during the reign of Selim III and occupied Madinah for a while by gradually gaining strength. During this rebellion movement Mescid-i Nebevi was partially damaged and some of the jewelry which was sent by former Ottoman Sultans were stolen. After the elimination of this rebellion, Mahmud II started a set of reconstruction activities in order to regain his reputation, which he lost among muslims, and to repair the damaged parts of Mescid-i Nebevi. But during this reparation activities, the sounds of reconstructing Mescid-i Nebevi rised after realizing that Mescid-i Nebevi was so much damaged that it could not be repaired. But later, the emergence of Greek rebellion, the subsequent eruption of Russian war, and the rebellion of the Governor of Egypt, Mehmed Ali Pasha, which was of particular concern to this region, prevented these works.During the reign of Sultan Abdulmecid, who succeeded to the crown after Mahmud II, the reparation was restarted and most of the parts of Mescid-i Nebevi was reconstructed. Only the place, where the tomb of prophet Muhammed is, was repaired. This reparation lasted with some interruptions for 12 years and was only completed after several months of the death of Sultan Abdulmecid.

Muhammed'in de medfun bulunduğu Mescid-i Nebevi'nin yeniden tamir ve inşa edilmesi incelenmiştir. Peygamber'in kabrinin olduğu kısım tamir edilmiştir.
