Abstract

Sosyal ağ sitelerinin özellikle gençler arasında popüler olmasının en önemli sebeplerinden birisi, gençlerin benlik sunumlarını yapma istekleridir. Bu çalışma ile sosyal ağ sitelerinden Facebook.com'da, gençlerin, dijital kimliklerini nasıl oluşturdukları ve benlik sunumlarını nasıl gerçekleştirdikleri araştırılmıştır. Gençlerin dijital kimliklerini kurarken Facebook'ta sahip oldukları profilleri nasıl yapılandırdıkları ve benlik sunumlarını, hangi profil alanlarından gerçekleştirdikleri soruşturulmaktadır. Gençlerin, Facebook'u nasıl algıladıkları ve ne amaçla Facebook kullandıkları da bu çalışmada değerlendirilmiştir.Çalışmanın kavramsal çerçevesini, Goffman'ın dramaturji teorisi ve izlenim yönetimi kavramı oluşturmaktadır. Farklı araştırma tekniklerinin bütünleştirilmesi yolu ile veriler toplanmış ve verilerin analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın, yeni medya, sosyal ağlar ve gençleri konu alan araştırmaların yanı sıra, gençlerin sosyal ağları nasıl kullandıkları ve bunun kimlik oluşumlarını nasıl etkilediği üzerine fikirler vermesi beklenmektedir. Bu çalışma, sonuçları itibariyle, gençlerin Facebook profil alanlarından hangilerini, ne tür bir benlik sunumu için kullandıklarını ortaya koyarken aynı zamanda dijital kimliklerin oluşumunda, öne çıkan benlik sunumu taktiklerini de belirlemektedir.

One of the most important reason that the social network sites are popular especially among young people is the youth?s desire of self-presentation. This study investigates how young people constitute their digital identity and realise self-presentation in Facebook.com. How do young persons structure their profiles in Facebook.com while constructing their digital identity and through which profiles do they realise their self-presentation is questioned. The perception of the Facebook by youngs and their aim in using facebook is evaluated.The conceptual framework of the study is founded upon Goffman's dramaturgy theory and the concept of impression management. The data is collected and evaluated through integrating various research techniques. Beside the researches investigating new media, social networks and youth, this research is expected to give an idea how young people use social network sites and how that affects their identity construction. This study establishes the use of certain profiles for certain kinds of self-presentation, and defines the prominent self-presentation tactics in the construction of digital identity.
