Murabaha is very interesting and significant in terms of its adaptability to modern economics, and of understanding the development of modern Islamic Economics and Islamic Finance. It is a financial phenomenon with broader social and economic implications rather than simply a legal-technical matter. To examine it from a holistic perspective, I have compared it with other contract types (e.g. mudaraba, musharaka, ijara etc.) and tried to establish the links between the classical fiqh and modern Islamic Economics. Finally, and very importantly, I have analyzed the methodologies or ways of reasoning the modern ulema apply in forming their opinions (or rulings) concerning modern financial transactions.Murabaha was first introduced into the modern literature in 1976, and has since then become the subject of intense debates. There have been some studies on it as well as many important scientific conferences.This research has revealed some important points regarding both the murabaha-based system in particular, and Islamic banking in general. At macro level of analysis, I have first argued that in the current globalizing world economic actors have a different view of (and relationship with) commodities, which results in a different set of commercial practices, compared with the traditional ways of thinking and acting, on which the classical fiqh was based. At the micro level of analysis, my research has shown that the examination of the murabaha?s (re-)emergence during the globalization process as the dominant transaction type presents some important clues as to the nature, problems and perhaps the future of ?Islamic economics.?

Murabaha, 1970'lerde mudarabe ve müşareke temelli bir anlayışla faaliyete başlayan İslam bankacılığının en çok kullanılan işlemi olma özelliği taşımaktadır. Murabaha; ortaya çıkış biçimi, geçirdiği süreç, içerdiği problem noktaları ve hakkındaki tartışmalar açısından oldukça farklı boyutlara sahip bir akittir. Böyle bir akdin tarihsel gelişmini ele almak, geçirdiği merhaleleri takip etmek ve taşıdığı problem noktaları hakkındaki tartışmaları incelemek genel olarak İslam iktisadı ve özellikle modern akitler alanında önemli bilgiler sunmaktadır.Modern İslam iktisadı ve İslam bankacılığının durumunu değerlendirmek için murabaha akdinin seçilmesinde murabahanın; mudarebe, müşareke, icare ve selem gibi diğer yatırım-finansman modelleriyle ortak meselelere sahip olmasının yanı sıra kendine has pek çok farklı problem noktası içermesi, diğer işlemlere göre daha geniş ölçekli ve günümüzde en yaygın şekilde kullanılan işlem olması ve modern dönemde en çok tartışılan işlem niteliği taşıması etkili olmuştur. Ayrıca murabaha, klasik bir akdin modern ihtiyaçlara göre nasıl şekillendirildiğini ve bu konuda yapılan tartışmaların yönünü görme açısından da önemli bir örnektir.Bu çalışma, murabahayı fıkhî, iktisadî, sosyal vb. çeşitli yönleriyle ve eleştirel ve bütüncül bir bakış açısıyla ele almakta ve mevcut literatürden hareketle modern İslam iktisadı problemlerindeki akıl yürütme ve hüküm üretme faaliyetlerinin gidişatını ortaya koymaktadır.
