Sakarya ilinde emzirmenin değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

-111- SUMMARY Breastfeeding is the most suitable and incomparable natural feeding method for a baby's healthy development. The early recognition of problems connected with breastfeeding, and the subsequent precautions taken improves the quality of nursing care. In this connection a research project was planned in a baby friendly hospital in the Sakarya region, the purpose of which was to evaluate methodologically the breasfeeding of mothers, who had given natural birth. The scope of our research covered 443 mothers and their naturally delivered babies, our sample group being in the month of march, which is known to be one of the busiest periods of birth. Collection of data: In the light of published literature a form of demographic characteristics on breastfeeding was developed, and following the example of Jensen, Wallace and Kelsay their five criteria LATCH (Breastfeeding Charting System) point system was used. Based on the validity and the reliability of the LATCH point system Cronbach Alfa values were found to be ; for 1st breastfeeding session.70, 2nd breastfeeding session.68,for 3rd session.65 and for 4th session.64. The data was evaluated using the percentage, average, standard deviation, chi- square, t-test and analysis of variation. In our study, it has observed that mothers are to breastfeed 1.1 % of babies at once, 18.7 % of babies after halfan hour and 22.3 % of them in an hour. 83.1% of babies were given to the mothers from post-natal. The result of the evaluation of mothers' breastfeeding using the LATCH point system indicated that as the number of breastfeeding sessions increased: 1st breastfeeding session 7. 16, total score, 4th breastfeeding session 9.25.
