Abstract

IV ABSTRACT This master thesis makes a comparison between New York Stock Exchange, London Stock Exchange and Istanbul Stock Exchange. The main focus is on costs. Before going into all aspects of costs, the functions of stock exchanges is explained. Histories of New York Stock Exchange, London Stock Exchange and Istanbul Stock Exchange are summarized from their foundations until today. Organizational structure, membership types, listing requirements and order execution systems of each stock exchange is analyzed. New structures for Istanbul Stock Exchange are suggested such as specialist type of membership. Costs from all aspects are analyzed. Trading costs (commissions and execution costs), listing and membership charges and fees and taxation of stock exchange operations are searched and compared with each other. The evolution period from fixed commission rates to negotiable commissions at New York Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange is explained. Then commission rates today are searched. It is shown that Istanbul Stock Exchange is the cheapest stock exchange.

ÖZET Bu yüksek lisans tezi New York Borsası, Londra Borsası ve İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsası'nın birbirleriyle karşılaştırmasını yapmaktadır. Tezin odak noktası maliyetlerdir. Ancak maliyetlerin tüm yönlerininin araştırılmasına başlamadan önce, menkul kıymet borsalarının işlevleri üzerinde durulmaktadır. New York, Londra ve İstanbul Borsalarının başlangıcından bugüne değin tarihçeleri verilmektedir. Söz konusu üç borsanın organizasyonel yapılan, üyelik tipleri, kota alma gereksinimleri ve işleme sistemleri analiz edilmektedir. İşlem maliyetleri (komisyonlar ve emir işleme koyma maliyetleri), kota alma ve üyelik ücret ve aidatları ile borsa işlemlerinin vergilendirilmesi, derinlemesine araştılarak her üç borsanın birbiriyle kıyaslaması yapılmaktadır. New York ve Londra Borsalarının sabit komisyon oranlarından pazarlığa tabi komisyonlara gelişi anlatılmaktadır. Ardından bugünkü komisyon oranlan karşılaştırılmaktadır. Maliyetlerin tümü göze önüne alındığında, İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsası'nın en ucuz borsa olduğu gösterilmektedir.
