ABSTRACT This thesis is a study on a new concept of cost accounting. The past few years have been an exciting time for cost accounting and manufacturing professionals with a wave of concepts such as Just-In-Time manufacturing, Total Quality Control and Quality Costs revolutionizing the factory floor. However, during all of this, cost accounting methods have stagnated and have not kept pace with the times. Traditional cost accounting, which is the language of business managers, has not changed during the past decades. This thesis describes the `what, why and how` of a new manufacturing and cost accounting strategy called `Activity- Based Costing (ABC) `.
