Abstract

In margine alla ricerca intorno alla ‘Lettera in difesa de la lingua volgare’ di Alessandro Citolini è emersa una miscellanea cinquecentina, con note di possesso di Benedetto Varchi, contenente l’operetta e altri scritti grammaticali (Claudio Tolomei, 'Il Polito', 1524, e Agnolo Firenzuola, 'Discacciamento de le nuove lettere inutilmente aggiunte ne la lingua toscana', 1524). L’articolo attribuisce gli scritti alla biblioteca del Varchi e contribuisce così a far luce sulle fonti della sua riflessione linguistica e ortofonica nell'ambito della questione della lingua nel s.XVI. Nel corso delle stesse ricerche, inoltre, si è potuto rinvenire un esemplare dei ‘Commentaria’ di Cornelio Agrippa all’‘Arte breve’ di Raimondo Lullo con una nota di possesso della medesima mano; il ritrovamento amplia ulteriormente la biblioteca del Varchi, attribuendogli il possesso di un testo come quello di Agrippa, importante per il contributo che l'Ermetismo umanistico ha dato all’affermazione della nuova scienza sperimentale.
