Olivo in Sardegna

Abstract

La diffusione dell’olivo in Sardegna risale probabilmente all’arrivo dei Fenici. Alcuni toponimi testimoniano l’antichità di questa tradizione (le regioni storiche Ogliastra e Parteolla, i borghi Oliena, Ollastra e Dolianova), così come le molte anfore ritrovate. L’olivicoltura riprese anche in epoca romana e, dopo la caduta dell’impero, la produzione aumentò a opera dei governatori della repubblica di Pisa che favorirono l’impianto degli olivi concedendo al fittavolo la proprietà delle piante innestate. L’espansione fu massima nel XVII secolo sotto la dominazione spagnola che favorì il diffondersi della coltura e l’introduzione di molte varietà iberiche. Numeri della olivicoltura di oggi: 6 milioni di piante coltivate, 40 mila ettari di oliveto, 52.500 aziende olivicole, 10.000 tonnellate di olio (1,4% della produzione nazionale). Aree tradizionali di coltivazione sono le colline marnose del Parteolla-Trexenta, a sud est, con le cv a duplice attitudine Tonda di Cagliari e Pizz’e carroga; le colline granitiche del Sulcis Iglesiente, a sud ovest, con la Nera di Gonnos e la Nera di Villacidro. Ancora, il Montiferru in provincia di Oristano con Bosana e Semidana; il Nuorese con Bosana e Nera di Oliena; l’altipiano calcareo del Sassarese, regno della tipica oliva Bosana e l’Algherese con la Palma. Una sola Dop: “Olio di Sardegna”.
