Le Fortificazioni e le strutture difensive di Alghero (XIV-XV secolo)

Abstract

Le torri e le mura di Alghero, ancora evidenti e piuttosto consistenti lungo il perimetro a mare della cittadina catalana, più rade o totalmente scomparse nella parte che guarda verso terra, presentano aspetti, caratteristiche e struttura che non appaiono, se non in minima misura, coerenti con quello che era il loro disegno originario. Le diverse vicende storiche e politiche attraverso le quali son passate, i continui aggiornamenti - almeno a partire dalla fine del XIV secolo in poi - delle tattiche militari offensive e soprattutto dei nuovi ordigni da guerra già apparsi nell'isola nella seconda metà del '300, il necessario e susseguente continuo adattarsi dei sistemi difensivi di una città a quelli offensivi, han fatto sì che a tutt'oggi ben poco rimanga di quel che era il primitivo assetto difensivo della villa.
