Archeologia fenicio-punica in Sardegna

Abstract

L’archeologia fenicia-punica è una disciplina storica che si pone come obiettivo di ricostruire le vicende dei Fenici e dei Cartaginesi nei territori da loro frequentati per circa 1000 anni, tra il XII e il II secolo a.C. I Fenici nascono come popolo, ma non come entità politica, agli inizi del XII secolo a.C., come conseguenza dei rivolgimenti politici e sociali provocati nell’area del Vicino Oriente dall’invasione dei cosiddetti Popoli del Mare. Fin dagli albori della navigazione antica, la Sardegna fu meta e crocevia di commerci grazie alle sue rilevanti risorse naturali. A iniziare dal quinto millennio a.C. vi fu un fiorente traffico di ossidiana, vetro vulcanico utilizzato soprattutto in età neolitica per fabbricare lame, principalmente verso l’area del Golfo del Leone. Successivamente, verso la metà del secondo millennio a.C., prima i navigatori micenei, poi i mercanti orientali furono attratti dalle ricchezze minerarie dell’isola e dalle possibilità offerte dal mercato dei metalli. Verso la fine del IX secolo a.C. iniziò a mutare il tipo di approccio dei Fenici verso l’Occidente mediterraneo e con i primi anni dell’VIII secolo a.C. s’indeboliscono progressivamente e poi, successivamente, cessano i contatti commerciali con l’Oriente. Gli abitanti delle città del Libano, soprattutto di Tiro, pressati principalmente da problemi politici interni e da reiterate aggressioni esterne da parte dei sovrani assiri, si allontanano definitivamente dalla madrepatria per cercare risorse intatte e nuove ragioni di vita in Occidente.
