L'applicazione del pensiero alla critica del testo

Abstract

Housman, uno dei più celebri editori di testi classici, oltre che affermato poeta, nel 1921 pronunciò una conferenza, piena di verve polemica, sull’applicazione del pensiero alla critica del testo. A cent’anni di distanza questo libro propone (a cura di L. Battezzato) la prima traduzione italiana della conferenza, con note che individuano le fonti (spesso taciute) a cui Housman allude. Accompagnano la conferenza una prefazione (di L. Battezzato) che situa il lavoro nel suo contesto storico e culturale, e una postfazione (di G. B. Conte) che discute il legame tra l’approccio di Housman e le scienze cognitive. Il volume contiene anche la pubblicazione, a cura di L. Battezzato e C. Conybeare, di estratti inediti dal taccuino di lavoro in cui Housman segnò appunti e citazioni preparatorie.
