Antero de Quental’s ‘picturesque Europe’. Translation and ‘transplantation’. In 1881 Antero de Quental worked to three texts (Normandia e Bretanha, Casas nobres inglesas e Veneza) for the portuguese edition of Picturesque Europe, a travel narratives’ collection first published in London during the period 1875-1878. Antero, indeed, developed a translation/reconstruction, especially in Venice’s chapter (originally by T. G. Bonney), by modifying, adding (for example, Taine’s passages) and enlarging the original text. This ‘transplantation’ dialogues directly with others Antero de Quental’s works, such as Causas da Decadência dos Povos Peninsulares.
