Abstract

Los estudios dedicados a Juan del Encina de las últimas décadas que se han ocupado de los aspectos de su poética han enfatizado sobre todo las innovaciones presentes en su obra, marginando los vínculos con el pasado literario. Por otra parte, la obra poética de Juan de Mena ha gozado de enorme prestigio tanto entre sus contemporáneos como en la posteridad. Este trabajo profundiza en los vínculos de Juan del Encina con el poeta de Córdoba. Con esta finalidad se siguen dos diferentes caminos: por un lado, el de los comentarios críticos del salmantino acerca de Mena y su poesía en los lugares diputados y en particular en su “Arte de poesía castellana”, muy vinculada a la Gramática de Nebrija (que demuestra gran aprecio de Mena), y por el otro en la práctica poética, tanto desde el punto de vista métrico, cuanto y sobre todo en su nivel metadiscursivo, en el que Mena adquiere un papel central, siendo no sólo el personaje principal -el primero y mejor entre los “de nuestra nación/ muy claros varones” (Triunfo de Fama, vv. 121-122)- sino el inspirador del proyecto poético enciniano de arte mayor.
