Il volume si avvale di vari documenti inediti e presenta per la prima volta una visione unitaria del pensiero di Ugo Spirito, attraverso le molteplici vicende del suo pensiero. Le prefazioni sono di Cornelio Fabro e Armando Rigobello, due autori che conobbero personalmente Ugo Spirito e furono suoi colleghi.Antonio Russo, che ebbe modo di frequentare Ugo Spirito per un decennio, in quest'opera mette a fuoco le due principali fonti di ispirazione di Ugo Spirito: 1. il Positivismo italiano; 2. Il neoidealismo gentiliano.
