Abstract

Twenty one animals (19 cows and 2 bulls) belonging to three private farms from the Valle Grande Province (Santa Cruz de la Sierradepartment, Bolivia) were analyzed cytogenetically. Results obtained demonstrated the presence of submetacentric (taurine type) Y chromosome morphology in analyzed bulls. The absence of zebu gene introgression into Valle Grande Creole cattle populations could be explained through environmental (altitude and latitude) and historical factors. Furthermore, this study showed the absence of 1/29 translocation in all the animals, that could be consequence of factors such as founder groups and genetic drift.
