Abstract

We registered two new records of felids, Leopardus geoffroyi and Puma yagouaroundi from the western Argentina, La Rioja and Catamarca provinces, respectively. The records are within the known distribution ranges for both species. However, both are important data, because there are few carnivorous records in these provinces. The specimen of Jaguarundí is of reddish coloration, which is more frequent in open areas and the Geoffroy’s cat had the typical “stained” coloration. These records contribute to the analysis of the distribution of the Geoffroy’s cat and the Jaguarundi, and additional raise the problem of wildlife and vehicle collisions as a major threat that affects the Argentine mastofauna, as both records came from individuals hit by vehicles.
