Abstract

: On the basis of an historical/epistemological review on the models of cell membrane since the emergence of cell theory in the first half of the 19th century until the acceptance of Overton’s model at the end of that century, we present in this article two historical episodes that account for the complex argumentative dynamics and of the theoretical/empirical adjustments involved in the formulation of such model. We then relate those two episodes to two key metascientific ideas of interest for teaching: one linked to theory ladenness of observation and the other one with analogical mod-els. With this input, we designed and implemented an instructional unit for the course of Cell Biology in a degree in biology teaching at the University; the unit integrated biological and meta-scientific content, as it is currently required in the curriculum in Argentina.
