Suplicantes de Esquilo, ¿una trama primitiva?

Abstract

In this article, we intend to revise de dramatic quality of the plot of Aeschylus' Supplices, following a classic criteria and a modern one. In the first place, the reconsideration of the Aristotelian standard compels us to verify the presence of the two elements that, in antiquity, qualified for the assessment of the complexity of a tragic composition: recognition and peripeteia. As regards the analysis of the plot from a modem and current perspective, the description as 'complex' is equivalent to 'intricate'. Thus, the higher the number of conflicts a play had, the higher difficulty could be observed in the plot and the higher the esteem was. At this point, we aim to examine the quantity and quality of the agons that sustain the different moments of tension in the play.
