Abstract

S 23º 03’ 08.48’’ y long.

In this paper a detailed zooarchaeological analysis from the Alero Caído 1 site is presented with the aim of assessing management practices of Camelidae resources during the period 3000-2500 years BP. The Alero Caído site is a rock shelter located in Quebrada de La Aguada (S 23°03’08.48" and W 66°26´09.40’’) at 3917 metersabove- sea-level and about 20 km southwest of the town of Coranzulí (Jujuy, Argentina). The zooarchaeological record is well preserved and composed of 1182 bone fragments of Artiodactyla, with predominance of Lama glama over Vicugna vicugna. The results suggest that between ca. 3000 and 2500 years BP herder-hunter groups used the site as a place of transit and/or a highlands seasonal site.
