Los límites del consentimiento político: Hume y el contractualismo

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo consiste en examinar la refutación del contractualismo propuesta por Hume. Este examen comienza señalando que nuestro filósofo comprende la doctrina contractualista como el fundamento teórico de uno de los dos partidos políticos enfrentados en su época y que la crítica de la misma es el complemento de su crítica a la doctrina del otro partido, es decir, al providencialismo teológico y al principio de la obediencia pasiva. Este examen continúa distinguiendo dos estrategias de argumentación en la refutación humeana del contractualismo, una estrategia empírica y una estrategia formal, y reconstruyendo los argumentos que componen cada una de ellas. Como resultado de este examen, extraigo finalmente una conclusión sobre el sentido de las críticas de Hume a la doctrina contractualista.
