Abstract

The Solar Energy Department of the National Atomic Energy Commission has been making developments in photovoltaic equipment for solar radiation measurement for terrestrial and space uses since 1999. In this context and in order to complete the spectrum of developed equipment, a photovoltaic solar sensor of monocrystalline silicon and the support for a submersible photovoltaic radiometer suitable for use in different aquatic environments were designed and manufactured. The development has applications in different areas, for example, for beekeeping and algae production. The design was raised according to the sensor signal due to attenuation when immersed as well as adaptation of the dimensions. The calculations for the design, preparation and characterization of silicon sensor as well as the support design with the necessary characteristics to be immersed in different ecosystems are presented. The prototype developed was contrasted (inside and outside of the water) with a pyranometer Kipp & Zonen and leakage tests were performed to 60 m depth equivalent. The results show a good performance of the instrument under pressures equivalent to different depths and met the specifications originally raised. Finally calibrations are presented before and after the tests.
